Growing up in today’s world isn’t easy for anyone, but for many kids in our community it is tougher than you might think. Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens 2010 Youth of The Year Wachovia Flanigan is a perfect example of how your support and our hard work can make a huge difference in the life of a local youth. Wachovia came to us in dire circumstances, with little direction in life and little guidance from home. Thanks to her experience at the Boys & Girls Club, she now says, “I no longer hang my head in shame. I hold my head high because I survived what most children in similar circumstances would not…Throughout my years at the Boys & Girls Club I learned to trust again, I gained more confidence, and my will to succeed in life grew.” |

In August she will be enrolling in Savannah State University largely due to her participation in our Career Prep program. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens, we dream of a world where every child is given the opportunity to succeed in life and experience a brighter future.
