Growing up in today’s world isn’t easy for anyone, but for many kids in our community, it is tougher than you might think. Devonte Appleby is a perfect example of how your support and our hard work can make a huge difference in the life of a local youth. Now 18 years old, Devonte joined the club at age 6. With an absentee father, little direction in life and little guidance from home, the Club was his refuge every day after school, where he came to do his homework and play basketball. A natural athlete, he played both high school football and basketball. Before his senior year of high school, Devonte’s mother passed away. A volunteer at the Club took Devonte into his home and family. Later this year, Devonte will be the first in his family to attend college. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens, we dream of a world where every child is given the opportunity to succeed in life and experience a brighter future.
